John Cadle
of High Wycombe
Sarah Horblow's 2nd marriage was to John Cadle in 1816
JOHN CADLE Grocer and Tallow Merchant in High Wycombe
His origins are still unknown to AJP 2023
He was a grocer and a Tallow Merchant in High Wycombe .
How he and Sarah met is also something of a mystery ,considering the distance between where she was living in Colchester, & his home in High Wycombe.
John Cadle & Sarah Moore nee Hornblow were married on 29 JAN 1816 at Saint Paul's, Deptford, Kent.
witnessed by her older brother Ebenezer of Southwark & her sister Hannah , before her marriage Lloyd Henry Standish in Aug 1816
When they migrated in 1820 John Cadle is recorded as age 24. He died in 1824 age 28 EDB born therefore around 1796
Sarah was born in Braintree Essex DOB based on her given age in 1843 at 54 about 1789 daughter of Rev John Hornblow and Elizabeth Young.
As the child of a Baptist Minister she would not have been baptised as a baby-
Her first marriage was to George Moore. He was still living in 1838 when their daughter was married in Stepney
There is a Cadle family in Long Crendon in Buckinghamshire however I have been unable to find a birth or baptism for this John that is certainly him.
SPECULATION It seems possible that if Sarah left George Moore she might stay with her brother Ebenezer who at that time seems to have been living or working in Southwark , south of the Thames . Southwark is only about 2.5 miles from Deptford although why they chose Deptford to be married is also unclear. Maybe because nobody would know them there.....
Deptford was largely a rural area of market gardens and agricultural land. The city was just beginning to encroach by 1815 -
John Cadle occupation, Grocer & Tallow Chandler in 1816 in Deptford married Sarah Moore as a spinster - with a husband & 3 children
He and Sarah went to South Africa as members of Howard's Party - No 21 on the Colonial Department list, led by William Howard of Blucher Street, Chesham, Buckinghamshire.
They took Sarah's oldest daughter by her 1st marriage Mary Catherine Moore born on 30 March 1811 at St Peters in Colchester, leaving behind Sarah Georgiana ( Pomery) & John Colton Moore. Mary died age 12 in Grahamstown SA. She and John may well have been twins
In South Africa his occupation in Salem Hills was Canteen Keeper and he also had a job building a road .

Dr. C. Ernest Cadle - obituary
Funeral services for C. Ernest Cadle, 57, author, explorer and theologist who died Wednesday at his home will be conducted today at 2P.M. at Poerce Bros Hollywood Chapel, with interment following in Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery. Born in South Africa, Mr. Cadle came to this country in 1914. In 1926 he led his first expedition into Africa to study the habits of the nearly extinct African Bushmen. He leaves his widow, Mrs Jessie A. Cadle and daughter Catherine of the family residence _________ and three brothers, William, North Hollywood, John, South Africa, and Samuel Cadle, Denver.
A Product of his time. Dr Ernest Cadle made a film in SA 1930
'Wild Men of the Kalahari' (1930) 30m, prod. C. Ernest Cadle. In one of the earliest "talking pictures" shot in western Africa, the infamous expedition leader and lecturer Dr. C. Ernest Cadle of the Cameron-Cadle expedition describes the Kung Bushmen as "among the most treacherous creatures on earth". He then "baited them as we would an animal" to gather them for camera shots, and noted their eating habits ("he doesn't chew, but simply swallows like a dog"). This rare ciné16 print is, we believe, the only one in existence today.
